The Ohio Museum of Transportation

About Us.

History:

The Ohio Museum of Transportation was officially founded in 1990 by several transit enthusiasts.  Papers of Incorporation were filed and in May of 1992 we were granted tax exempt status by the IRS.

We operate as a non-profit corporation in the State of Ohio and under 501(C)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.  All contributions and donations are tax deductible.

Presently, our buses are housed in several locations and we are in search of a permanent home.

The operation of our museum is totally dependent on donations and volunteer help.  Through the generosity of our members and contributors we have been able to carry on with the goals set forth in the articles of incorporation.

We have been constantly adding to the collection by acquiring additional vehicles and obtaining spare parts to be used for restoration purposes.  We have also accumulated numerous artifacts.

The Collection:

Our collection is focused on the Cleveland Transit System with additional interest in the suburban operators of this area.  These suburban operators lines do not exist today having become part of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority.  The RTA as we know it also evolved mainly from the Cleveland Transit System in 1975.  We also have historical vehicles from other Ohio cities.

We have a representation of most of the above with coaches dating back to the 1940’s.  Our collection also includes some rare vehicles not native to the area.

Manufactures represented at the museum include: GM, Flxible, and Twin Coach.  We have also expanded our collection to include some highway coaches.

Membership:

Memberships to the Ohio Museum of Transportation are available to all interested parties upon payment of yearly dues and subject to acceptance by the Board.

Dues for regular memberships are $25.00 per year, members will receive a copy of “Buckeye Express”, our official newsletter.  In addition, regular members are entitled to participate in the restoration and operation phases of our collection and to vote upon issues that are essential to the operation of the museum.

Associate memberships are available for $15.00 per year and include all privileges of a regular membership with the exception of voting rights.  A family membership is also available and includes a spouse and/or up to 2 children at $30.00 per year.

We hold periodic membership meetings on an announced basis and sponsor occasional fan trips to raise monies for the museum.
